PUTRAJAYA: Several localities in Perak, Johor and Sarawak will be placed under an enhanced movement control order effective Thursday (May 27) due to a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in the affected areas.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that in Perak, the Bagan Serai sub-district will be placed under an enhanced MCO after 53 positive cases were reported from 144 tests carried out as of May 24.
Health authorities found that the cases reported are scattered within the sub-district and not concentrated in one locality or area and the infectivity rate reported went up from 42.5% in week 20 to 62.6% in week 21.
Ismail Sabri added that Felda Redong 1 in Labis, Johor will also be placed under an enhanced MCO.
He said health officials had carried out 361 screenings to date, of which 67 positive cases were reported.
In Sarawak, the enhanced MCO involves three localities in Daro - Rumah Panjang Isa Anak Balone, Rumah Panjang Ben Anak Kuleng and SK Telok Gelam.
“Twelve positive cases were reported out of 153 swab tests carried out at the three localities. After a risk assessment, the government has agreed to enforce an enhanced MCO in these areas to prevent further infection, ” he said on Tuesday (May 25).
The enhanced MCO will run until June 9 and all existing standard operating procedures as contained on the National Security Council website will apply.
The government also announced the end of the enhanced MCO at several localities.
Among them are Ulu Lepar in Raub, Pahang, Rumah Panjang Dinggai in Sarikei and the Baleh hydroelectric dam construction site in Kapit, Sarawak.
The enhanced MCO order has also been lifted at MRSM Pengkalan Hulu in Perak, at five settlements around Sungai Klau and three villages at Tras subdistrict in Raub, Pahang.
