PUTRAJAYA: The police have arrested 694 individuals on Monday (May 24) for various standard operating procedure (SOP) violations, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Among the offences committed were no physical distancing (179), failure to register details when entering premises (166), not wearing face masks (129), failure to comply with the movement control order (58), cross-border travel without permission (63) and other offences (99).
Of those arrested on May 24,685 individuals were slapped with compounds and nine were remanded.
The task force monitoring standard operating procedure compliance had checked 70,972 premises on Monday (May 24), including supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, government offices and hawkers.
Also checked were wet markets and pasar tani, places of worship, recreational places and sea transport terminals.
On Ops Benteng, the Defence Minister said enforcement authorities nabbed five illegal immigrants and seized two land vehicles.
"Authorities also sighted the presence of 174 vessels in Malaysian waters during nine sighting activities carried out on May 23" he said on Tuesday (May 25).
Ismail Sabri said that 626 individuals had arrived in Malaysia on Monday (May 24) and all were sent to undergo quarantine at government-designated stations.
Since July 24 last year, 211,339 individuals had returned to the country and been quarantined at 78 hotels and nine training institutes.
On the screening of foreign workers, 198 individuals were screened on May 24 with no positive cases reported.
Cumulatively, 697,397 foreign workers had been screened, with 10,319 positive cases reported.
The government has made it mandatory for all foreign workers to undergo Covid-19 screening effective Feb 1.
