Syed Saddiq: Ministry officer implicated in drug bust to be suspended


PETALING JAYA: The Youth and Sports Ministry officer who was among those arrested at a private party will be suspended pending the police investigation, says Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (pic).

The Youth and Sports Minister said he would leave it to the authorities to take action based on the rule of law.

“I was already informed of the arrest of the officer by the police.

“The Malaysian people are subject to the nation’s laws, regardless of rank and status, ” he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 13).

It was reported that Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah and four political special officers were among 17 people arrested following a raid on a premises in Puchong.

Adhif has denied that he was arrested after testing positive for drugs, reported Sinar Harian.

It is believed that six women were also among those arrested.

It is learnt that police had initially gone to the location after receiving complaints from members of the public of loud noises coming from the building early Sunday (Jan 12).

Sources said the people at the location were having a private party and police also believed drug consumption and illegal gambling were among the activities.

“Police discovered some powdered substance believed to be drugs, ” one source said.

The sources added that 16 of those arrested tested positive for drug consumption following a urine test.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador is expected to have a press conference at 3pm on Monday (Jan 13).
