Selangor MB: Action will be taken if rep was arrested for drugs

KLANG: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari says the state will ascertain if allegations that an assemblyman has been busted for drugs are true.

"Once we have the report, we will initiate the appropriate action. No one is above the law in this country," Amirudin told reporters after attending a gathering of Selangor's civil servants at the state secretariat here on Monday (Jan 13).

Selangor Parti Pribumi Bersatu youth chief and Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah, in an interview with newsportal MalaysiaKini, denied that he was detained after testing positive for drugs on Monday.

Amirudin also said he would seek clarification from state Bersatu leaders on the matter.

"In the event it is true, the onus is on the party to arrive at a decision," he said, adding that the truth of the allegations would not be known until the police disclose more information.

According to reports, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador will hold a press conference on the matter later on Monday.

Selangor Bersatu chief Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari was not available for comment at press time.
