RESIDENTS in Taman Bukit Belimbing, Kajang in Selangor, want potholes that appeared on a resurfaced road to be repaired.
The two potholes in Jalan Bukit Belimbing, the main road accessing the area, were said to have appeared in February after road repairs.
Resident Vincent Raj said he raised the matter with Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) councillor Tan Kah Hoe early in the year.
“MPKj resurfaced the road early this year, and the potholes appeared not long after.
“In April, Tan said he had forwarded the matter to Air Selangor to check if the potholes were caused by pipe leaks.”
Vincent said he had witnessed motorcyclists swerving dangerously to avoid the potholes.
“To date, I have not seen MPKj visiting the site.
“They should quickly resolve the issue for motorists’ safety,” he added.
When contacted, Tan said the road was backfilled by MPKj’s contractor in early March after the potholes appeared.
“MPKj will monitor the road to see if there is any sinking, before it orders the contractor to patch the road’s surface permanently.
“The current potholes highlighted are more like the road’s premix layer peeling off.”
Tan said the contractor would repair the potholes by the end of September.
He added that MPKj allocated RM350,000 for the resurfacing project in February that covered a 1.4km stretch of road from the exit of the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK) to Masjid Taman Bukit Belimbing.
Other upgrades carried out by MPKj included repairs to a damaged drain along Jalan Alamanda in May.
The problem was reported in a StarMetro article, “Balakong residents complain of poor upkeep by MPKj”, on April 11.
“Also in May, MPKj reinstated and repainted the Taman Bukit Belimbing signage,” said Tan.
In August, MPKj installed bollards along Jalan Belimbing Indah to prevent illegal parking, and introduced chevron markings at the Jalan Bukit Belimbing-Jalan Sungai Besi Indah 2 junction to enhance road safety, he added.
