Recognising that clear vision can transform a child’s life, AmGroup Foundation contributed prescription eyewear to 44 underprivileged students from the B40 category at SK St Mary in Kuching, Sarawak.
The outreach provided complimentary eye screenings and vision assessments, followed by new prescription spectacles for pupils who required them, Bernama reported.
The programme was made possible through a collaboration with Eyesight Optic, a local optical practice in Kuching.
For many children from underserved communities, poor eyesight often went unnoticed or untreated due to financial constraints, the foundation said in a media statement.
Left unaddressed, vision impairment can affect classroom participation, academic performance, and self-confidence.
Through this initiative, AmGroup Foundation hopes to remove one of this barriers, enabling students to focus on their education and aspirations.
At the handover ceremony, AmBank’s group corporate communications and marketing head Shazman Shahid, along with Sarawak regional director Simon Su, presented the pupils with their new spectacles.
“Good vision is something many of us take for granted, yet for a child, it can make all the difference between struggling to keep up in class and having the confidence to learn, participate and pursue their dreams.
“This initiative goes beyond providing prescription glasses, it is about investing in the future of our children, easing the financial burden on families and ensuring that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed.
“We are equally grateful to our valued partner, Eyesight Optic, whose support demonstrates how businesses can come together to create positive change within the communities we serve,” said Shazman.
The programme also promotes greater awareness of eye health while strengthening collaboration between the bank, its clients and the local community.
The foundation’s programme offers free eye screenings and prescription eyewear for pupils of SK St Mary in Kuching, Sarawak.
