EVERY child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream and realise their full potential.
Recognising that something as simple as clear vision can make a life-changing difference, AmGroup Foundation provided prescription eyewear to 44 underprivileged students from B40 households at SK St Mary, Kuching, helping them see the classroom and their future with greater confidence.
The outreach provides complimentary eye screenings and vision assessments, followed by new prescription spectacles for students who require them.
The programme was made possible through a collaboration with Eye Sight Optical, one of AmBank’s valued clients in Kuching, to create a meaningful and lasting community impact.
For many children from underserved communities, poor eyesight often goes unnoticed or untreated due to financial constraints. Left unaddressed, vision impairment can affect classroom participation, academic performance and self-confidence.
Through this initiative, AmGroup Foundation hopes to remove one of these barriers, enabling students to focus on what truly matters, their education and aspirations.
The handover ceremony was graced by AmBank Group corporate communications and marketing head Shazman Shahid, along with AmBank Bhd regional director (Sarawak) Simon Su, where the students were presented with their new spectacles, symbolising the bank’s commitment to supporting communities beyond banking.
“Good vision is something many of us take for granted, yet for a child, it can make all the difference between struggling to keep up in class and having the confidence to learn, participate and pursue their dreams,” said Shazman.
“Through the AmGroup Foundation, we are committed to creating opportunities that have a meaningful and lasting impact on people’s lives.”
Shazman added, “This initiative goes beyond providing prescription glasses; it is about investing in the future of our children, easing the financial burden on families and ensuring that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed.
“We are equally grateful to our valued partner, Eye Sight Optical, whose support demonstrates how businesses from different areas can come together to create positive change within the communities we serve.”
Beyond improving students’ eyesight, the programme also promotes greater awareness of eye health while strengthening collaboration between the bank, its clients and the local community. It reflects the foundation’’s broader commitment to advancing education, health and social inclusion through initiatives that empower underserved communities across Malaysia.
As the foundation continues to expand its community outreach efforts nationwide, initiatives such as these reaffirm its belief that small acts of care can open doors to greater opportunities, helping every child see a brighter future, one pair of glasses at a time.
