Fabian Fernandez has documented his journey sailing around the world, in a 270-page memoir titled I Did It Anyway.
The book chronicles his 35,000-nautical mile voyage aboard his yacht Destiny 12 which began on Feb 6, 2023, and ended on Oct 11, 2025.
This makes him only the fourth Malaysian to circumnavigate the globe.
Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah attended as guest of honour at the book launch in Kuala Lumpur.
Fernandez, 55, said the memoir represented a meaningful milestone, acknowledging that his journey would not have been possible without the support of his family and friends.
The former marine engineer and plantation manager said he hoped the book would inspire readers and encourage them to pursue their own goals.
His voyage took him through the treacherous Cape of Good Hope and Mozambique Channel, with unpredictable waters, strong currents and fierce winds testing his seamanship and resilience.
Reflecting on whether he would undertake another circumnavigation, Fernandez said he would, although he would choose a different route and would not attempt it alone.
“All sailors drift. But it’s about the return, not the drift,” he said.
