Balakong residents complain of poor upkeep by MPKj

RESIDENTS of Taman Bukit Belimbing in Balakong, Selangor, say their complaints including on damaged drains in the neighbourhood, have not been attended to.

Chu Ee Sin claims that he spent about RM1,000 to temporarily patch up a damaged drain in front of his house on Jalan Boginvilla due to inaction from the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).

“MPKj sent its personnel to check the drain in November last year, but no action was taken,” he said.

On Jalan Alamanda, adjacent to Jalan Boginvila, the drain along a row of shops was also damaged, disrupting the flow of water, said resident Vincent Raj.

“When water cannot flow through the drain properly and there is rubbish or food residue, it will emit an unpleasant odour and attract flies and mosquitoes,” he said.

Chu also pointed out the lack of fencing on part of a walkway along Jalan Sungai Besi Indah 2, the main road outside Taman Bukit Belimbing.

“The walkway is located right beside a monsoon drain.

“The absence of proper fencing poses a danger to pedestrians, especially children.”

When complaints were lodged to MPKj, Vincent said he was told that the council did not have the budget to carry out repairs.

He also highlighted abandoned stall structures along Jalan Bukit Belimbing, another main road outside Taman Bukit Belimbing.

“The stalls were operating some time before Ramadan and stopped after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“The structures are not being used now,” he said, adding that Jalan Bukit Belimbing was not a suitable spot for roadside traders owing to the high traffic volume on the road.

MPKj had not responded to queries regarding the issues at press time.
