MORE than 2,000 fishermen in Johor are benefitting from the government’s subsidised fuel scheme aimed at easing rising operational costs in the fishing industry.
Johor agriculture, agro-based industry and rural development committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip said 2,071 fishermen received subsidised petrol and diesel amounting to 4.77 million litres last year.
“The diesel and petrol subsidy scheme for fishermen was introduced to help cover part of the operating costs borne by fishermen following the increase in fuel prices in the market.

He said the state, through the Fishermen’s Development Authority of Malaysia, took proactive steps to ensure fishermen could easily access subsidised fuel supplies.
He added that 27 subsidised sales centres were appointed and accredited across Johor to make it easier for fishermen to obtain fuel.
Registered fishermen with valid vessel licences are allowed to buy subsidised diesel or petrol through the MyMinyak app, with purchases capped at 50 litres per day.
“The fuel must be filled directly into approved containers to ensure safety, proper distribution control and to prevent misuse.
“Those who violate the regulations, including using unauthorised containers, may face suspension or be blacklisted from receiving the subsidy.”
Zahari said the state government was concerned about the welfare of coastal fishermen as they were contributors to Johor’s food security network.
He also highlighted a 2025 Statistics Department report which showed that Johor continued to dominate the nation’s agricultural sector with a record-breaking total income of RM30.15bil.
