SOME 350 volunteers assisted with the slaughter and distribution of meat from 10 sacrificial cows donated by Kampung Kongsi villagers for Aidiladha.

Kampung Kongsi mosque committee chairman Yuskamarul Anuar Yusop said the priority, as in decades past, was to ensure that low-income families received sufficient portions of meat for their households.

He said fresh beef was currently expensive, with prices above RM40 per kg, making it unaffordable for some.

“We want the poor to enjoy fresh beef through the Hari Raya Aidiladha meat distribution.”

Yuskamarul Anuar said the mosque held a feast the day before the event, during which cattle were slaughtered and a hearty meal prepared for volunteers.

Yuskamarul Anuar said the cattle weighed between 120kg and 150kg each and were bought from Sungai Burung, a village nearby.

He added that Muslims of all ages took part in the programme, including children.

Retiree Ahmad Iswadi Arshad, 48, said he has been helping the mosque during Hari Raya Aidiladha for more than a decade.

He added that he used to assist with the slaughtering process but now helped with distribution and related tasks instead.

His sons, Iskandar, 20, Hamzah, 19 and Mudzaffar, 10, also volunteered.

He said the event enabled financially better-off Muslims to share fresh meat with poor families.

“For those who are less mobile or do not have transport to come, volunteers will deliver the beef to their homes,” Ahmad Iswadi said.
