ADDITIONAL classrooms will be built at 102 Selangor schools ahead of an expected rise in Year One enrolment next year.
Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) director Shukri Ishak said this was aimed at preventing overcrowding and improving learning conditions.
He said JKR Selangor received Education Ministry allocations for the project, with 41 quotation notices issued so far.
“We are targeting completion of the additional classrooms in high-density schools before the end of the year to ensure the ministry’s directive is carried out according to schedule,” he said at the opening of the new JKR Selangor headquarters complex in Section 17, Shah Alam.
The ceremony was graced by Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

These involve building works, roads, junction upgrades, renovations and the additional classrooms.
According to a JKR Selangor statement, the new headquarters complex cost RM36mil and reflected the state government’s commitment to strengthening public infrastructure delivery.
It has a hall, meeting rooms, computer lab, surau and parking area covered by solar panels.
Shukri said JKR Selangor planned to expand its solar initiative to four more district offices this year following RM128,000 savings recorded at the new headquarters last year.
Annual savings were expected to reach RM500,000 with the initiative expanded to the other branches, he said.
The state government also allocated RM3mil in 2025 for the purchase of 11 new vehicles to replace JKR Selangor vehicles more than 20 years old.
The event also marked the launch of Gagasan Rumpun Selangor (GRS) 2026, a state-level unity and community development initiative aligned with the five-year Second Selangor Plan (RS-2).
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who was present, said this year’s GRS series focused on community sustainability and well-being.
He said the programme aimed to unite communities through infrastructure-based “adopted community projects” while ensuring the benefits of Selangor’s economic growth are enjoyed equally.

Unlike previous editions that centred on culture and unity programmes, GRS 2.0 places greater emphasis on community infrastructure, placemaking and upgrading public facilities.
The adopted community concept is aimed at strengthening engagement with the state government, palace institution and local communities through grants and local development.
The programme is being jointly led by Tengku Amir Shah and Amirudin.
During the ceremony, Tengku Amir Shah planted a tree within the complex grounds and visited the mechanical engineering branch vehicle workshop.
Also present were Orang Besar Istana Tengku Seri Perkasa Diraja Tengku Musahiddin Shah Tengku Abdul Samad Shah, Orang Besar Daerah Petaling Datuk Emran Kadir, Selangor rural development, unity and consumers committee chairman Datuk Rizam Ismail and Selangor state assembly Speaker Lau Weng San.
