A stream within the popular Bukit Gasing forest park is clogged with stones following recent pavement upgrading works by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
Avid hiker Nathan T said the stream beside the newly built walkway was now obstructed.
“A beautification project was carried out here.
“The leftover stones from the construction works could have been dumped into the stream.
“Now the water is stagnant and has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” he said.
Another hiker, Lynn TC, said the stream also needed to be cleared of fallen trees blocking water flow.
Section 6 Rukun Tetangga chairman Rajesh Mansukhlal said former councillor Derek Fernandez often included non-governmental organisations and resident leaders’ feedback before and after projects were carried out at Bukit Gasing.
“This inclusive process allowed us to provide suggestions and share our concerns about projects at the hill,” added Rajesh.
“I recall informing councillor Terence Tan of some of the issues that he had agreed to look into.
“MBPJ must engage people with expertise to handle projects near streams.
“Mistakes cannot be made at the expense of taxpayers’ money.”
Tan said he would check on the matter and do the needful. — By SHEILA SRI PRIYA
