National Unity Ministry (KPN) has opened applications for Museum Matching Grant (GPM) 2026 with an initial allocation of RM5mil, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026.
An initiative under Budget 2026, the scheme aims to draw participation from the corporate sector, philanthropists and cultural experts to strengthen Muzium Negara so that it remains relevant, competitive and attractive to both domestic and international visitors.
Applications are open until July 30 with agencies, institutions and organisations invited to submit their proposals, KPN said in a media statement, as reported by Bernama.
“Among the objectives of the initiative are to revitalise the museum through upgraded facilities, including improved landscaping, enhanced galleries and use of new technologies in the display of collections and exhibition presentations.
“This approach is intended to provide visitors with a fresh experience while strengthening the preservation and conservation of museum collections and related activities,” it added.
The ministry said collaboration among various stakeholders was crucial to strengthen museums and preserve the nation’s history for future generations, in line with the Government’s efforts to harness culture and heritage as catalysts for nation-building.
Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the grant underscored Malaysia’s efforts in strengthening museums as centres of learning, heritage preservation and social cohesion.
“This initiative also aims to raise the visibility of museums through empowerment and modernisation efforts, as well as programmes that are more relevant to current developments,” he said.
The minister had earlier launched an event marking International Museum Day at Muzium Negara in Kuala Lumpur.
