A CULTURAL showcase featuring traditional Malay music, dance and theatre is set to light up the stage at Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman MaTiC in Kuala Lumpur on May 17.

“Showcase Seri Malaya” is aimed at bringing the young generation closer to the beauty of traditional arts and instilling a sense of pride in the nation’s heritage.

The show includes 12 traditional songs, blending live vocals, colourful choreography and dramatic acting into a single storyline narrated by child actor Mikael Noah.

It features a line-up of local artistes including Rojer Kajol, Kajol Zuraidah and Asmidar, while live orchestra Orkes Melayu Rojer will perform supported by young performers from Sekolah Seni Malaysia.

Orchestra leader Rojer Kajol, whose real name is Mohd Rozaidi Syukry, said the event had elements of education and entertainment, showcasing genres including zapin, joget, inang, asli and ghazal that are slowly fading from today’s music scene.

Rozaidi hopes to revive these performing art forms in a way that resonates with younger Malaysians.

“We’re not just putting on a show. We are creating a space where heritage can breathe,” he said during a press conference at MaTiC.

“Showcase Seri Malaya” reflects Rozaidi’s journey as a cultural artiste.

Originally based in Johor, his group Orkes Melayu Rojer brings traditional ghazal Melayu to the country’s capital city with a modern twist.

“It reflects how we as artistes carry our emotions, struggles and love for culture through every performance,” he said.

Guests are encouraged to attend in classic Malay attire. The best dressed stand to win prizes from Capri by Fraser Hotel and Seri Pacific Hotel.

Tickets for the show are priced at RM100 for VIP, RM50 for Zone A and RM40 for Zone B.

Around 80% of tickets have already been sold ahead of the show, with VIP seats nearly fully booked.

“Showcase Seri Malaya” is organised by Rojer Kajol Music in collaboration with Communications Ministry, MyCreative Ventures, Persatuan Ghazal Johor Malaysia, ARTease and Sekolah Seni Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
