KEPALA BATAS: The Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has ordered a premises operating as a nightclub in Bandar Setia Utara Fontaines, Bertam here to be closed for failing to comply with licensing regulations.

Mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid (pic) said the action was taken following monitoring and inspections conducted at the premises on April 23 and 28.

"Inspections found that the premises failed to comply with several requirements, including selling liquor without a licence, displaying advertisements without a permit and placing additional tables and chairs without approval.

"In addition, a further inspection by MBSP on April 29 found that the business premises had unauthorised structures without our approval,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He said MBSP has instructed the premises owner to submit a show-cause letter within seven days regarding the matter.

Baderul Amin said that if the owner fails to respond within the stipulated period or if the explanation given is deemed unreasonable, the premises and advertisement licences will be revoked by MBSP based on the offences committed.

Earlier, the issue went viral on social media following public complaints objecting to the nightclub’s operations, alleging that it remained open until the early hours of the morning and was located next to a tahfiz learning centre, a female tahfiz hostel and an elderly care centre.

Following that, members of the public together with the Umno Youth Movement of the Kepala Batas division held a peaceful gathering in front of the nightclub, calling for its full closure due to its late-night operations.

They also claimed to have received complaints that patrons were found intoxicated and that liquor bottles were discarded indiscriminately in the area. - Bernama
