FOUR Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Four Seasons Resort Langkawi have raised RM102,000 for Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY) through their 2026 Terry Fox Run events.
It is the highest amount collectively raised by the two properties to date and will support cancer research, prevention and treatment initiatives in Malaysia.
A mock cheque was presented to CRMY chief executive officer Andy Khoo at Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
The fundraising effort began in May, when 2,200 people took part in the Terry Fox Run organised by Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur, the largest turnout since it started hosting the event four years ago.
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi in Kedah hosted the run for the third time in June, attracting its highest turnout of 350 participants.
Four Seasons regional commercial director Nelson Hilton said the events brought together hundreds of guests, families, community members and corporate supporters for a good cause.
Khoo thanked both properties for their continued support.
“The RM102,000 raised this year is a wonderful reflection of what can be achieved when people unite behind a cause that matters.”
He said the funds would be channelled primarily into three critical areas: pre-screening technologies, tailored treatments and patient care.
“We use some of the funds for analysing pre-screening technologies, making sure we can, for example, build apps that dentists and oncologists can use to take photographs to indicate if a sore is potentially malignant,” Khoo said, referencing early detection initiatives alongside early-stage breast cancer screening.
He added that funds also supported precision-based cancer treatments as well as patients from the B40 group.
Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur general manager Simon Barnett said the strength of the Terry Fox Run was in bringing together colleagues, guests and members of the community for a common cause.
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi general manager Tobias Emmer said it was a privilege for the resort to be part of a movement that had inspired generations to support cancer research.
The event is inspired by Canadian athlete and cancer activist Terry Fox, who began his Marathon of Hope across Canada in 1980 to raise funds and awareness of cancer research.
When 22-year-old Terry Fox lost his leg to bone cancer, he set out to cross Canada and ran 5,374km to raise awareness, Hilton shared.
“He was forced to stop when the cancer returned, and he passed away in 1981, but not before raising C$24mil for the cause.”
Four Seasons founder Isadore Sharp helped organise the first Terry Fox Run in 1981.
More than four decades later, Terry Fox Run events continue to be held in communities around the world to raise funds for cancer research.
Also present at the fund handover was Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur community relations director Datuk Rosemarie Wee.
