UPGRADING and maintenance of 44 out of 51 public housing schemes and people’s housing projects (PPR) in the capital under Budget 2026 are complete.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud said works to the remaining seven would be completed by end-2026 or carried forward to next year.
“We have also allocated funds in the 2027 budget for whichever PPR and PA projects have not yet been completed.
“The flat upgrading programme will continue next year as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when he tabled the Budget 2027 on Oct 9,” Fadlun said at a press conference to mark the completion of upgrading works at PPR Taman Mulia in Bandar Tun Razak.
Under Budget 2027, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was allocated RM458.5mil towards green spaces and upgrading amenities and public housing projects.
The breakdown includes RM200mil to develop and maintain green spaces, RM55mil for 22km of covered walkway, RM66mil for the Lestari Niaga programme and RM23mil to continue upgrading and maintenance of Kuala Lumpur flats.
The remaining funds are to maintain tourist attractions, for heritage conservation and upgrading, buggy services for tourists and the underprivileged, as well as public amenities.
Fadlun also said DBKL spent RM6.67mil upgrading various aspects of PPR Taman Mulia.
A total of RM3.48mil was used for building repainting, and RM2.55mil to replace sub-main cables and main switchboards.
“The remaining RM370,000 was spent on road resurfacing works and RM272,000 for installation of fire prevention systems,” said Fadlun.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said DBKL chose neutral colours for the PPR repainting to make it look more like a residential area rather than a kindergarten with bright colours.
“Also, DBKL collaborated with Board of Engineers Malaysia on replacing sub-main cables and main switchboards.
“The professional engineering body has offered its services to assist DBKL in auditing electrical works across all PPRs in Kuala Lumpur,” she said.
Built in 2002, PPR Taman Mulia comprises 912 residential units across two 21-storey blocks.
Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was present at the event, welcomed the improvements and hoped residents would take care of the facilities.
Kawasan Rukun Tetangga PPR Taman Mulia chairman Rasul Md Sani said residents were happy with the upgrades.
“Previously, the paint on various blocks had started peeling off and roads within the compound were riddled with holes.
“Some residents even say that the new paint gives the flats a condominium-like feel,” he said.
