Over 200 GROs held after mass raids


JOHOR BARU: A total of 222 people, including 209 foreign women believed to be working as guest relations officers, have been detained in a series of raids across Johor.

State police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the operation, codenamed Ops Noda, was conducted at 12 entertainment outlets between 2.15am and 9am yesterday.

He said the foreigners, aged between 19 and 40, comprised 93 Vietnamese, 87 Thai nationals, 11 Laotians, seven Indonesians, six Myanmar nationals and five Filipinas.

“Police also detained 13 outlet caretakers, comprising 10 local men and three foreign men, aged between 20 and 53,” he said in a statement.

Comm Ab Rahaman said 44 people tested positive for drugs.

Among those detained, seven had criminal and drug-related records.

Comm Ab Rahaman urged those with information on suspected criminal activity to contact the Johor police hotline at 019-279 2095 or its operations room at 07-221 2999.
