Teacher's assault case: Education Ministry leaves action to state education authorities

KOTA BARU: The Education Ministry (MOE) has left it to the state education authorities to take action on a 54-year-old male teacher who was arrested for allegedly assaulting a student and his mother at a school in Pasir Mas last Wednesday.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said he could not comment further on the matter as he had only just received information about the case.

"I am confident that the State Education Department, District Education Office and the school will take action based on the regulations," he told reporters after a bus handover ceremony at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Naim Lilbanat here on Tuesday (Aug 18).

On Wednesday, police detained a teacher suspected of hitting a 14-year-old student and slapping the student's mother in two separate incidents in Pasir Mas.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by means of a dangerous weapon or method. - Bernama
