PETALING JAYA: Budget 2027 will focus on raising people's incomes, expanding quality job opportunities, and strengthening Malaysia’s economic competitiveness through strategic investments, says Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
Speaking at the Budget 2027 engagement session at the Finance Ministry on Tuesday (Aug 18), Amir Hamzah stated that the upcoming budget will be anchored on three core priorities: raising the ceiling, raising the floor, and strengthening good governance.
The government will continue prioritizing key growth sectors, including semiconductors, the energy transition, the digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI), and Islamic finance. Budget 2027 is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on Oct 9.
Under the "raising the ceiling" pillar, Amir Hamzah said the government aims to attract high-quality investments, enhance productivity, and support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as start-ups.
“This will enable more locally produced goods and services to penetrate global value chains as ‘Made by Malaysia’ products,” he said, adding that research, innovation, and technology commercialisation will be heavily promoted.
Addressing the "raising the floor" component, he highlighted plans to upgrade public services in education and healthcare while expanding social safety nets for vulnerable groups in collaboration with non-governmental organisations and strategic partners.
On good governance, Amir Hamzah emphasized streamlining regulations, reducing red tape, and accelerating the digitalisation of public service delivery to improve the business ecosystem.
The engagement session was attended by approximately 400 representatives from industry groups, civil society, NGOs, and academia.
