WITH the introduction of pet-friendly marriage registration services at a Chinese ancestral hall in Kuala Lumpur, couples are now bringing cats, dogs, rabbits and even tortoises to witness one of the most important moments of their lives, China Press reported.
Located along Jalan Petaling, the Chan She Shu Yuan Clan Ancestral Hall is the first venue to allow pets to attend the registration of marriages.
Assistant registrar of marriage Tan Kok Beng, who has a dog, said he understood how much pets mean to their owners.
“Many people treat their pets as members of the family. Naturally, they want them to be part of such a joyful occasion,” he said.
According to him, couples have brought all kinds of pets to attend the ceremony.
Tan said the initiative was popular among younger couples and has become the ancestral hall’s defining feature.
The Chan She Shu Yuen Ancestral Hall is one of the oldest and well-preserved clan houses and places of worship in Malaysia.
