KK, Penampang hit by multiple flash floods after continuous rain

KOTA KINABALU: Continuous downpour has resulted in multiple flash floods in Penampang and the city here, since Thursday evening.

The local authorities later declared both areas as disaster zones.

As of 8am Friday, authorities have already evacuated dozens of families from Penampang with ongoing operations still active.

In Kota Kinabalu, no one has been reported displaced but there have been many sightings of submerged vehicles, inundated houses and shoplots, similar to that in Penampang.

Firemen and Civil Defence officials are still at the many affected areas assisting victims and assessing the overall situation.

Although the rain has stopped, floodwaters remain stagnant in many areas.

Water supply in Penampang is also expected to be affected due to flooded or clogged treatment plants from the debris and mud.
