SEREMBAN: A petrol station owner here is being probed for refusing to sell subsidised fuel despite having sufficient supply, says Negri Sembilan state Domestic Trade and Cost of Living director Muhammad Zahir Mazlan.
He said a team was sent to investigate the matter on Wednesday (June 24) after a post went viral that the station had allegedly refused to sell diesel to a lorry driver.
"Our investigation revealed that the petrol station had refused to sell the controlled goods despite having sufficient current stock for sale.
"We have seized the relevant documents as part of our probe," he said in a statement.
Muhammad Zahir said the case was being probed under Section 16A(1)(b) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
Individual owners can be fined up to RM1mil and jailed not more than three years or both upon conviction whereas associations and corporations can be fined up to RM2mil.
The department, he said, would continue to monitor petrol stations to check any misappropriation of subsidised and controlled products.
"We appeal to the public to help us by channelling information regarding any non-compliance and non-adherence by traders," he said.
Muhammad Zahid said they can do so by sending the information via WhatsApp to 0198488000, its toll free number 1-800-886-800 or its portal e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my
