Adult Malayan tapir killed after being hit by motorbike in Kuala Pilah

KUALA PILAH: An adult Malayan tapir, which is a highly endangered species, was killed after being struck by a motorcycle along Jalan Juasseh-Bahau.

District OCPD Supt Muhamad Mustafah Hussin said that the incident occurred when the animal suddenly dashed across the road and the motorcyclist was unable to avoid crashing into it.

The incident happened around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

He said both the 41-year-old rider and his pillion rider suffered light injuries in the mishap.

"The duo were heading towards Juasseh when the animal suddenly crossed the road.

"The rider was unable to stop in time and crashed into the tapir," he said in a statement.

Supt Muhamad Mustafah said the case is being probed under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59).
