Private university CFO claims trial to CBT charge

SEREMBAN: A 55-year-old company chief financial officer (CFO) claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to a charge of committing criminal breach of trust involving RM6.5mil.

Noraini Aripin, who works for a company operating a private university, allegedly misappropriated funds intended for the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) as ad valorem duty and used them for other purposes.

She was charged with committing the offence between September 2025 and April this year. She faces between two and 20 years in jail and a fine upon conviction.

Noraini pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to her before Sessions judge Kunasundary Marimuthu.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Syairah Aqilah Khalil said the prosecution was offering bail of RM100,000 with two sureties pending the next mention.

She also asked the court to order Noraini to surrender her passport and report to the MACC office here monthly.

Lawyer Kelvin Ong, representing Noraini, asked for lower bail, saying his client had five children and was not a flight risk.

He said Noraini, who earns RM15,000 a month, was also undergoing cancer treatment.

“My client has also been cooperating with the MACC since the probe began,” he said.

Judge Kunasundary set bail at RM80,000 with two sureties and allowed the prosecution’s other applications. The court fixed Sept 21 for mention.
