Ciggies hidden under coconut husks seized


PASIR MAS: The Kelantan Customs Department seized 1.95 million sticks of various brands of cigarettes, worth RM1.37mil including duties and taxes, through Ops Asap Cino.

Its director, Mohd Hisham Mohd Nor, said the seizure was made in two raids in Kampung Pauh 9, Tawang in Bachok on Aug 17.

He said in the first raid, an abandoned lorry was found with 1.701 million sticks of cigarettes in 74 boxes, Bernama reported.

“The cigarettes were concealed in a white sack filled with coco­nut husks. It was valued at RM1.194mil, including duties and taxes, while the lorry was valued at RM150,000,” he told the media.

Mohd Hisham said further inspection uncovered a multi-purpose vehicle containing 253,600 cigarette sticks worth RM178,027. The vehicle, valued at RM15,000, was also seized.
