PETALING JAYA: Two local men have been arrested while another suspect died after allegedly jumping from a flyover during a police chase that began when officers attempted to stop their vehicle for inspection.
Petaling Jaya deputy OCPD Supt M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly said the incident occurred on Wednesday (June 24) afternoon when personnel from the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit were carrying out crime prevention duties and vehicle inspections.
"The driver refused to stop when instructed, triggering a pursuit through several locations in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur.
"The vehicle was eventually intercepted in the Pantai Sentral area," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 25).
Following the arrest, police detained two local men in their 30s to assist in the investigation.
"A third suspect was confirmed dead after sustaining severe injuries when he allegedly jumped from a flyover while attempting to evade arrest.
"Subsequent searches led to the seizure of several items believed to be linked to theft and drug-related activities," he added.
Police checks also revealed that both arrested suspects have previous criminal and drug related records as well as an outstanding wanted record linked to a drug offence.
"One of the suspects has been remanded for five days until June 29, while the second suspect has been remanded for two days until June 26," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties, Section 279 for rash and dangerous driving, and Section 307 for attempted murder.
"We are grateful to members of the public for their cooperation throughout the incident and urge road users to comply with police instructions to avoid endangering themselves and others.
"Investigations are ongoing, and the public has been advised not to speculate on the case as it could interfere with the investigation.
