Johor polls: PSM to contest Skudai seat

JOHOR BARU: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) will be contesting the Skudai state seat in the upcoming Johor state election.

Its deputy chairman S. Arulchelvan said the party is set to enter the state election with its partner Muda under the progressive bloc banner.

"The progressive bloc will put forward five candidates in this election, with Muda contesting four seats and PSM contesting the Skudai seat.

"We believe that Skudai is the most suitable seat for us and that we can bring positive impact to the constituency," he said in his speech after announcing PSM's candidate here.

Asked if other parties such as Bersatu and Parti Bersama Malaysia will be joining the progressive bloc, he said that they are not.

"Bersama has many times indicated that they want to contest solo. So, that is their stand.

"PSM has only negotiated with Muda. We did not have any discussion with Bersatu," he said.

Earlier, he announced that PSM will be fielding its state secretary, Amir Syafiq Ameer Soekre, to contest the Skudai state seat.

Amir Syafiq, who graduated with a degree in Business Management from Teesside University in Britain, has been with the party for the last five years.

"I hope to bring the voice of the people, including those who are often marginalised, in this election.

"I also hope to bring the voice of PSM as well," he said.
