JOHOR BARU: PKR’s candidate list for the Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections is 99% finalised and will be unveiled within days, says party secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh.
She said the party is expected to field 20 candidates in Johor and 16 in Negri Sembilan, with discussions on the line-up nearing completion.
“The candidates are 99% finalised. The announcement for Johor will be made within the next few days, God willing,” she added.
Fuziah, who is also the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Deputy Minister, said this in a press conference after visiting the Rahmah Sales programme at a hypermarket in Taman Daya here on Friday (June 19).
Fuziah said the party’s candidates would comprise a balanced combination of experienced leaders and newcomers, as well as women and youth representatives.
“There will be a balanced mix of old and new faces, women and young candidates. Wait for the official announcement,” she said when asked about the composition of the slate.
However, she declined to reveal the percentage of new faces that would be fielded in either state ahead of the announcement.
On seat negotiations within Pakatan Harapan, Fuziah said issues involving several constituencies had been resolved, including Putri Wangsa, which had been claimed by Johor Amanah.
“That is Amanah’s claim but seat negotiations have been resolved at the highest level of the coalition,” she said, indicating that the seat is expected to be allocated to PKR in the upcoming election.
On Wednesday (June 17), Johor Amanah denied claims that it agreed to hand over the Puteri Wangsa state seat to PKR for the upcoming Johor election.
Its vice-chairman Dr Zuhan Zain said the party had not made any decision or reached any agreement to relinquish its plan to contest the seat.
"Johor Amanah has made early preparations and organised its election machinery to reclaim... the seat, which was previously loaned to Muda during the 2022 Johor state election in the spirit of political cooperation at the time,” he added.
