Johor polls: Puad hints at major announcement June 27 on BN candidate list

Johor state assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the change of term from “Opposition” to “pihak pengimbang” (balancing force) was following Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar’s decree for the old term to be re-examined.

JOHOR BARU: Umno leader Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi has hinted at a major announcement on Saturday (June 27) regarding the Barisan Nasional candidate line-up for the upcoming Johor election.

"Today BN Johor will announce its list of candidates," he wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday (June 24).

He added that he would make an "important announcement" on Saturday, adding that certain developments in the party in Johor were "concerning" but he would stand firm despite being a "small individual".

"There are things that are not right within Johor Umno," he added, saying he reviewed the proposed candidates and felt there were elements on the list that were "not right" for Johor Umno after the proposed candidates were reviewed.

Puad, who was previously state assembly speaker, said he had already announced that he would defend the Rengit state seat and would make way for trained and educated young leaders.

However, he said his view that youth should be given opportunities had not been heeded, describing it as a matter of "political courage" to continue his struggle.

Barisan is expected to announce its Johor candidate list at 2.30pm Wendesday at Umno's state headquarters.
