Accidental grenade blast: Autopsy on Corporal Norazmi to be conducted Tuesday night


ALOR SETAR: The post-mortem examination on the body of Corporal Norazmi Abu Bakar, the soldier who died in a mishap during grenade-throwing training at Hobart Camp in Gurun, will be conducted on Tuesday (June 16) night.

This was confirmed by the deceased's cousin, Sulaiman Mat Saad, 40, when met by reporters at the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here.

"I was informed that the post-mortem examination will commence after the identification process," he said.

Sulaiman said the body will be taken to Masjid Al Busyra in Merbok, Sungai Petani, after the post-mortem examination and will be buried at the mosque's cemetery.

Meanwhile, the body of another soldier, Private Siti Khadijah Sungip from the First Squadron of the Royal Engineers Regiment (1 RAJD), is expected to be transported to her hometown in Johor.

The Army confirmed the fatal incident during the exercise, held as part of the combat enhancement training at 10.57am on Tuesday.

Both were pronounced dead while being transported to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani.

Meanwhile, the police have recorded statements from seven individuals in the investigation into the grenade blast.

Kedah deputy police chief Deputy Comm Baderulhisham Baharudin said they would also take statements from other witnesses, including coaches, other trainees and range officers who were following the training.
