KOTA KINABALU: Marine cops in Sandakan seized over RM160,000 worth of subsidised cooking oil among other things and nabbed three people to facilitate investigations on Monday evening (Aug 3).
Region 4 marine police commander Asst Comm Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said in the 4.30pm raid, their team had raided an area near the Siguntur river after getting information about a suspected smuggling attempt.
He said at the site, they seized the subsidised cooking oil, a boat and a three-tonne lorry and detained three people to facilitate probes under the Supply Controls Act 1961.
“We believe the cooking oil is meant to be smuggled into a neighbouring country,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 4).
On related matters, ACP Ahmad said Sabah Marine cops had recorded some 95 cases under the Supply Controls Act 1961, made 91 arrests and seized more than RM25mil worth of items between Jan and Aug 3, this year.
He said the achievement was due to close intel and enforcement collaborations, while more raids as well as patrols were being carried out.
He said they will continue to boost enforcement to prevent leakages and smuggling of controlled items out of the country.
