PM Anwar conveys condolences on the passing of former deputy minister


KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his condolences to the family of the late Datuk Yahya Lampong, a former deputy rural development minister and Member of Parliament for Kota Belud, who passed away on Monday (Sept 21).

In a Facebook post, Anwar expressed his sadness upon receiving the news of Yahya's passing.

"My deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. May Allah SWT forgive all his sins, accept his good deeds, and place him among the believers. Al-Fatihah," he said.

Yahya passed away at the age of 86 at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur at about 6am on Monday.

He served as Kota Belud MP from 1982 to 1986 after winning the seat as an independent candidate in the 1982 general election.

He also served as the state assemblyman for Tempasuk under the United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) banner from 1985 to 1986.

His political career began in 1981 when he contested the Usukan state seat representing Berjaya party.

He also contested the Papar parliamentary seat representing PKR in 2013. - Bernama
