PUTRAJAYA: Five Immigration officers have been remanded for three days until Thursday (Aug 6) to assist investigations into alleged hacking of the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) to facilitate the processing and approval of Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS).
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Aug 3) following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Sources said the suspects, comprising four men and one woman aged between their 30s and 40s, were arrested at about 1pm on Monday (Aug 3) when they turned up at the MACC headquarters to have their statements recorded.
The officers were suspected of working together to hack the MyIMMs system and assist in securing approvals for PLKS applications without following the proper procedures.
Following the arrests, investigators seized five mobile phones belonging to the suspects as part of the probe.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests when contacted.
He said the case is being investigated under Sections 17(a) and 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
