PUTRAJAYA: A former estate manager of a rubber seedling supply company was remanded for three days on allegations of misappropriating contracts worth about RM8mil involving supplies.
Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah issued a three-day remand order until Aug 6 after an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Aug 4).
Sources said the suspect, a man in his 50s, was arrested at about 7pm on Monday (Aug 3) when he turned up to give his statement at the commission's headquarters.
"Initial investigations revealed that the alleged offences were committed between 2015 and 2017.
"The suspect was believed to have misappropriated projects involving the supply of rubber seedlings to two plantation companies that are subsidiaries of a statutory body," a source said.
The arrest followed investigations by a special task force set up to review and examine the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji, made public through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia's (Jakim) official portal on July 29.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
