Two held, 690kg of ketum seized on NSE

IPOH: Police have arrested two men and seized about 690kg of ketum leaves worth over RM27,000 during an operation on the North-South Expressway (NSE).

Muallim OCPD Supt Khalid Mohamad said police stopped a multipurpose vehicle at KM372 southbound at about 2am on Sunday (Sept 27).

"Checks on the vehicle found 69 plastic packages containing the leaves, with a market value of about RM27,600," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 28).

Supt Khalid said the two suspects had a record of six offences, including three drug-related offences, between them.

"They are believed to have acted as runners supplying the leaves to local markets.

"The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act," he added.

He said police would continue to take stern action against those involved in criminal activities.

"We urge the public to channel information on any suspicious activities to the nearest police station," he added.
