A WOMAN and her boyfriend woke to a nightmare at an upscale hotel in China when they discovered a complete stranger lying in bed beside her – exposing a chilling breach of security for the luxury hospitality brand, Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported.
The incident happened in Xinjiang province’s Urumqi city.
The couple told police that they had checked into a double-bed room at the hotel on Monday night, and the woman was later woken up by her boyfriend at 3.30am.
She was shocked to find an intoxicated man next to her while her boyfriend was on the other bed, describing it as “fearful and terrifying”.
She then called the police and notified the hotel’s front desk, which told them that the stranger was a hotel guest staying in a room across from the couple’s.
“The hotel’s security measures were ineffective. The room door failed to provide any protection, and the hotel had not offered an apology or compensation,” she said in a social media post that was later deleted.
A hotel staff member explained that the room was equipped with a security chain, but the guests failed to fasten it or lock the door; additionally, the hotel reviewed CCTV footage showing that the intoxicated man did not swipe his card and appeared to have simply pushed the door open.
> Hong Kong-based Malaysian actress Fish Liew may have returned home for a quick visit recently, but she proved a little too popular for her own good – finding herself too swamped to clear a mountain of autograph requests from her own family, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The 36-year-old Johorean said her family even asked her to print photos of herself and have them autographed before they were given to their friends.
“The first thing my mother asked about was my Hong Kong Film Awards trophy. When I got back home, she asked me where my trophy was.
“Luckily, I did bring it back. I thought she wanted to see me more than the trophy, but she actually wanted to see the trophy more!” she was quoted as saying.
Liew won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Anita and Best Actress for Someone Like Me in the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2022 and 2026, respectively.
