Some quarters tried to paint the arrest as an act of revenge by the ruling government.
Mahinda’s younger sons Yoshitha and Rohitha are currenrly facing charges relating to a land grab involving 54ha of a tea plantation.
They have been accused of using three traders to illegally obtain the plantation.
Authorities have initiated investigations by calling witnesses.
