KOTA KINABALU: Development projects that have a direct impact on the people will continue to be prioritised by the Economy Ministry in its development expenditure planning for next year, alongside efforts to strengthen the nation’s economic resilience.
Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (pic) said the ministry’s development expenditure planning for 2027 had been submitted to the Finance Ministry for finalisation.
“In development planning, we certainly place the main emphasis on prioritising projects that have an impact on the people,” he told reporters after visiting the People’s Facilities Initiative (IKR) project to upgrade a wooden bridge to a semi-concrete one at Kampung Kalansanan yesterday, Bernama reported.
He said that although the current global economic situation faced various challenges, including oil price volatility following geopolitical developments, the government continued to emphasise efforts to pursue national development and ensure the people’s livelihood.
He added that the matter was in line with the focus outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan to strengthen the country’s economic position, although the government faced fiscal pressures that must be managed prudently.
Akmal Nasrullah said Sabah had tremendous potential to be explored through the blue economy sector, which needs to be given attention at the national level.
He explained that recognising Sabah’s blue economy as part of the national agenda had the potential to open up more economic opportunities and contribute to strengthening the nation’s overall economic position.
