IPOH: The left lane of the North-South Expressway at KM263.6 near the Menora Tunnel here is expected to be closed as a precaution after a landslide.
Perak police chief comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said police, together with PLUS Malaysia Bhd and relevant agencies, are continuing to monitor the southbound site.
He said safety cones would be installed from KM262.8 to KM263.8 southbound, covering about 1km, as part of the proposed lane closure.
“Contraflow has not been activated for now, while traffic movement will be monitored from time to time depending on conditions at the site,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 12).
He said the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at the Vista Point area would also be focused on the site to allow continuous monitoring of the landslide area and traffic movement.
Comm Mohd Alwi advised motorists to drive carefully, follow instructions from personnel and observe safety signs.
“They are also advised to reduce their speed when passing through the affected area,” he said.
On Friday (Sept 11), a collapsed slope caused traffic congestion in the area.
According to the Malaysian Highway Authority in a post on X, the incident, which was reported at 4.28pm on the same day, caused a 4km traffic congestion that stretched for 4km.
However, an update at 6.28pm indicated that the congestion had extended to 15km as clean-up operations continued at the site.
