'YB Hulk' Norhizam among Bersatu's eight candidates for Melaka polls

MELAKA: Former DAP assemblyman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee, popularly known as "YB Hulk", will make another bid for Pengkalan Batu in the Melaka polls – but this time as a Bersatu candidate.

Norhizam is among eight candidates announced by Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin at an event in Klebang here on Thursday night (Oct 29).

Bersatu will also contest Lendu, Gadek, Sungai Udang, Pantai Kundor, Klebang, Ayer Keroh and Bemban.

Norhizam previously contested Pengkalan Batu as an independent in the November 2021 state election but failed to retain the seat, losing to Barisan Nasional's Datuk Kalsom Noordin in a five-cornered contest with a slim majority of 131 votes.

Norhizam earned the nickname "YB Hulk" after a video of him engaged in a heated exchange with villagers in Bukit Beruang went viral in 2018.

He served as a state executive councillor under the Pakatan Harapan-led government from 2018 to 2020.

In March 2020, the Pakatan administration collapsed, paving the way for a Barisan-Perikatan Nasional-led state government.

Norhizam subsequently left DAP and became an independent.

On Oct 4, 2021, he and three other assemblymen withdrew their support for the state government, triggering its collapse before state election was held in November the same year when Barisan won 21 of 28 seats.

Here are Bersatu's list of candidates:

N04 Lendu: Nazri Ramli

N07 Gadek: Mohd Zamri Abu Bakar

N11 Sungai Udang: Mejar (R) Abdullah Mahadi

N12 Pantai Kundor: Datin Seri Dr Asmah Samat

N14 Klebang: Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad

N15 Pengkalan Batu: Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee

N16 Ayer Keroh: Mohd Hamnain Mohamad

N24 Bemban: Muhammad Rabaie Ab Hamid
