AYER HITAM: A lorry driver died on the spot after being involved in an accident with another lorry at KM 93.5 on the Ayer Hitam-Yong Peng section of the North-South Expressway (Northbound).
Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohamad Shamin Mohamed Salikin said they received an emergency call in regard to the incident on Tuesday (Oct 13) at 4.05pm.
“Seventeen firemen from the Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Stations with a Fire Rapid Tender (RPT) vehicle were dispatched to the scene,’’ he said in a statement.
Mohamad Shamin said the operation response (OPT) team led by operation commander senior officer 1 Abd Rahim Razali, arrived at the site located about 21km, at 4.27pm.
He said the accident involved a lorry carrying wooden pallets and a lorry transporting a skylift machine, also known as an aerial work platform.

Mohamad Shamin said the lorry, carrying a cargo of wooden pallets, collided with the lorry transporting the skylift machine.
“As a result of the collision, the pallet wood crushed the back of the lorry cabin, causing the driver to become trapped in the driver’s seat of the lorry,’’ he added.
Mohamad Shamin said the OPT initiated a rescue operation using two cranes to lift the lorry cabin and one unit of Power Resquetech Tool to extricate the trapped victim.
He said Zuraimi Bahari, 50, the driver of the wooden pallet cargo, was declared dead by the Health Ministry medical officer at the scene.
Mohamad Shamin said Mohammad Nazri Basri, 36, the driver of the lorry transporting the skylift machine and the attendant were unharmed.
