SUNGAI SIPUT: MIC will follow the Barisan Nasional leadership decisions following calls for the 16th General Election (GE16) to be held earlier than scheduled, says Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
The MIC deputy president said the party, as a component of Barisan, would abide by whatever decision is made by the coalition chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"We held the Perak MIC state delegates meeting for 2026 today.
"MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran's advice to the delegates is to be ready for an election at any time," he told reporters after attending the 80th MIC Perak Convention at the Tun Samy Vellu Convention Centre on Saturday (Sept 12).
Saravanan, who is also the Tapah MP, said that the party is always prepared, whether the election is held this year or next year.
"Should an election be called, we have instructed all party machinery to be ready to face the next election at any time,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Umno president, in his policy speech at the 2026 Umno general assembly on Friday (Sept 11), said it was time for GE16 to be brought forward.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the general election should be expedited, as this was what the people wanted.
