PETALING JAYA: A former policeman has alleged that he was assaulted by Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain 11 years ago.
Lawyer Kamal Hisham Jaafar, representing the former policeman, has urged the Attorney General (AG) to review a police report lodged on Nov 19, 2015 against Shuhaily, who was then serving as Hilir Perak OCPD.
According to Sinar Harian, law firm Kamal Hisham & Associates said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 28) that the report was lodged in Teluk Intan, Perak, but alleged that no action had been taken against Shuhaily.
Kamal Hisham claimed that his client, who was still serving in the police force at the time, subsequently faced various challenges and difficulties in his career after lodging the report.
He said the former policeman was eventually dismissed from the Royal Malaysia Police.
The latest allegation comes a week after Shuhaily was charged at the Sepang Magistrate's Court on Oct 21 with allegedly assaulting two policemen at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Shuhaily was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code over the alleged incidents at Counter J, Terminal 1, between 1.17pm and 1.35pm on Sept 28.
Kamal Hisham said the recent charges had given his client renewed hope of obtaining justice, while reinforcing the principle that everyone should be treated equally under the law.
He said he and fellow lawyer Muhammad Nor Tamrin had submitted a formal application to the AG requesting that the 2015 police report be reviewed and reconsidered in accordance with the law.
The lawyers also hoped that the matter would receive due attention to uphold the rule of law and ensure equal treatment without discrimination.
