High Court to hear PN's judicial review on ROS suspension order on Dec 7

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today fixed Dec 7 to hear Perikatan Nasional's judicial review application challenging the Registrar of Societies' (ROS) order suspending the coalition's activities.

Lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, when confirming the matter, said the date was fixed through an online e-Review proceeding before Deputy Registrar Siti Nur Hafizah Mohd Sokran.

"The hearing is scheduled to be heard before Judge Datuk Azizan Md Arshad at 2.30pm,” he said in a text message.

ROS issued an order suspending all Perikatan activities effective Sept 23, 2026, under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966, following a notice issued to the coalition on Sept 22.

On Oct 13, Judge Azizan granted Perikatan leave to challenge the suspension order through a judicial review, ruling that the coalition had met the threshold for leave to commence the proceedings.

On Oct 5, Perikatan and four of its component parties filed an application for leave to commence judicial review proceedings.

The first applicant was Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, joined by Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) secretary-general Wong Chia Zhen and Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) secretary-general N. Sathes Kumar.

The fourth and fifth applicants were Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah and Parti Pejuang Tanahair (Pejuang) secretary-general Datuk Sazmi Miah.

The respondents are ROS director-general Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The applicants claimed that the suspension order had prevented them from carrying out routine political activities, including using the coalition's name and symbol in the 16th Melaka state election. - Bernama
