PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry will process tailoring allowance claims for its staff once uniform fabric supplies have been received, subject to the stipulated requirements.
The ministry said the procurement of the remaining uniform supplies for 2026 had been decentralised to state-level authorities through a quotation process.
“The arrangement followed a decision by the Finance Ministry and was communicated through a circular dated Sept 29, 2026.
“The procurement process is subject to the applicable value limits and the needs of each respective responsibility centre,” the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 27).
However, the ministry said some locations had yet to receive their uniform supplies, partly due to a lack of interested suppliers.
Efforts to secure suppliers would continue through subsequent quotation exercises to ensure the uniform requirements were met.
The ministry said claims would be processed in accordance with the Human Resource Service Circular on sewing allowances.
It also thanked the public for their concern and reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality healthcare services while ensuring the welfare of its staff received due attention.
The issue of delayed uniform supplies and outstanding sewing allowance payments was raised publicly last month, when Senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran called on the ministry to provide an explanation.
In a media report, he said feedback from healthcare workers indicated that some had yet to receive uniform fabric or sewing allowance payments, while complaints had also been raised over fabric quality.
He said feedback on his Facebook post included concerns from various states and Federal Territories, although he stressed that the complaints needed to be verified against official records from the respective responsibility centres.
Lingeshwaran also called for a clear timeline to resolve the delays and for the ministry to ensure that uniform fabric supplied to healthcare workers met the required quality standards.
