46,542 commuting accidents recorded in 2025, says PERKESO

SEPANG; A total of 46,542 or 50.9% of the 91,456 accident cases recorded in 2025 involved commuting accidents to and from work, according to the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).

"This worrying situation calls for action that goes beyond a reactive approach because the disbursement of PERKESO benefits alone is not the sole solution to this issue," said the PERKESO chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, during the launch of the Malaysian Riders Campaign (MyRider) here on Saturday (May 23).

He said PERKESO, in collaboration with the Police's Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, launched the MyRider campaign to strengthen efforts to prevent road accidents, especially those involving motorcyclists.

The campaign also involves various agencies and industry partners, including the Transport Ministry and the Road Transport Department.

"Through the MyRider campaign, I want to convey a simple yet meaningful message that we must together cultivate more responsible, prudent and safety-conscious Malaysian riders, in line with the slogan 'Malaysian Riders: Safe. Prudent. Dignified’," he said.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy director (Enforcement/Traffic Control/Summons Management) DCP Mohd Rozi Jidin said the Police fully support the MyRider campaign.

"May the close cooperation between PERKESO, police, government agencies and strategic industry partners serve as a catalyst for more effective efforts in enhancing motorcycle rider safety in Malaysia," he said. – Bernama
