IPOH: A Rohingya man and his two young sons perished in a house fire at Taman Serai Maju early Saturday morning (Aug 15).

The deceased have been identified as Mohd Yunus Nor Ali, 27, and his sons, Muhammad Woheed, 6, and Mohamad Aheed, 3.

Mohd Yunus’s 24-year-old wife, Saniya Jahan Juma Abul Kasim, survived the blaze after suffering burns to her hands and feet.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Director Datuk Sayani Saidon said a distress call was received via the MERS 999 emergency line at 5.17am.

"Upon arrival, firefighters found a Class A residential house engulfed in flames, with approximately 70% of the structure destroyed," Sayani said in a statement on Saturday.

"Saniya was located outside the property with burn injuries to her hands and legs. She informed firefighters that her husband and two children were still trapped inside."

"Firefighters conducted a search inside the residence and discovered the three victims in the front bedroom, which was actively burning," she added. "Crews deployed a 100-foot hose line and a hose reel, drawing water from the fire engine's tank and a nearby drain."

The fire was brought under control by 6.20am, and the operation concluded at 7.35am.

Medical officers from the Health Ministry confirmed all three victims dead at the scene. Their bodies were handed over to the police for further action. Saniya received initial medical treatment at the location before being rushed to the hospital.

According to Sayani, seven foreign nationals were living in the two-bedroom home.

"Based on preliminary findings, the fire is believed to have originated in the bedroom where the victims were found," she said.

A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the financial losses involved.
