MACC talks to Chai for third time

PUTRAJAYA: Political analyst James Chai was grilled by anti-graft officers for the third time over a government-funded semiconductor project worth RM1.1bil.

The former aide to economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli arrived at about 9.50am yesterday at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here.

On Wednesday, he spent more than eight hours providing his statement to the MACC officers.

Chai, who is also a witness in the investigation, was there to assist a case involving UK-based semiconductor giant, Arm Holdings Plc.

On Feb 16, the MACC opened an investigation paper on an agreement between the Government and a foreign company, estimated to be worth RM1.1bil.

The investigation came after complaints by several NGOs who alleged that the agreement was made hastily, to the extent that it is expected to have financial implications on the Government.
